Senior Product Engineer – Process Development

UK

I joined Moog in August 2003 after working as a Graduate Engineer in another company. My career at Moog began as a Design Engineer, which initially involved 3D modeling and drawing across a number of programs. After an enjoyable and extensive induction period, I was eager to get stuck into my first real project. From the outset, I was given ownership of the development of the product - from design right through to assembly and test. By the end of it I had designed a couple of components from scratch, performed the calculations, and then sat and built the first couple of units. When I saw a complete mock-up of the engine at an air show, I felt a great sense of achievement.

I wanted to become a part of Moog from the very first interview. What really inspired me was the attitude and friendliness of the people – which gave me a real insight into the company culture. The following interviews and subsequent first days only strengthened my opinion that this would be a great organization to progress my career with. The culture at Moog is one of the major aspects in keeping my work enjoyable.

Since I've been at the company my role has changed somewhat. I now work in Process Development. It really suits my interests as it involves working across multiple projects and with a variety of people. I'm enjoying my work today more than ever. I get involved with setting up standard tools, spreadsheets and also aspects of training and recruitment. I guess you could say I have become less technical, although I still find that having a technical understanding of the products helps on a day-to-day basis. One thing I've learnt during my time at Moog is that if you have a real interest in a particular field, you are given the flexibility and backing to pursue it.
