Our People: Europe
Pieter Schols
Sales Manager – Automotive Test Systems
Netherlands
About six months into my time at Moog, I visited our offices in Böblingen, Germany. At reception, I was greeted by name, even though I'd never met the receptionist. Everyone I spoke to took the time to have a proper chat with me. My first day was a similar experience. At the time only 90 people worked for Moog in the Netherlands, so it was very personal. My boss introduced me to everyone - even people I wouldn't be working directly with. I could only reach one conclusion: this was both a well-organized company and a place where people really respected each other. Just the sort of place I wanted to work. Today, there are 125 of us, and I still know everybody who works at my office.
I'd never heard of Moog until I applied to join Moog Amsterdam Control Systems. I applied because I liked the way they seemed to be organized: lots of bright engineers with a pioneer mentality. During the interviews, I heard that they had just been acquired by Moog and would be going into a transition phase towards becoming an international firm. This meant I would be working for a small, flexible company for two years, followed by all the opportunities that come with working for a large international company – perfect.
My job is fascinating and critical – I sell automotive test systems that car manufacturers use in development and testing of new models. We build custom systems, so it's my responsibility to use my Masters in Mechanical Engineering to act as the bridge between customers and engineers, then get the product through the commercial phase with procurement, legal and so on. I handle both the technical and the commercial, from start to finish, which is what I love about my job.
