Our People: Europe
Jillian O'Brien
Purchasing Supervisor
Ireland
I'd heard about Moog through colleagues in manufacturing companies I worked for in Cork, so I had a positive impression of what it was like to be there. Everyone said good things about it, so I applied for the role of temporary Buyer to cover maternity leave. I was delighted to be offered the permanent role after my contract expired because I'd really settled in well. The Ireland site has about 100 people there so it's a nice atmosphere, everyone seems to know each other, and you can approach anyone up to the senior managers. I felt comfortable there from the start.
After my contract was made permanent I started going on courses to continue my education and gain some qualifications, and Moog totally supported that. I was given the flexibility to complete a Business degree and went on a purchasing course. That meant that when my supervisor moved on last year, I became Purchasing Supervisor. It's a job I love because I'm surrounded by a great team of people who trust each other and the culture here encourages decision-making and responsibility.
